[Daniel] Bear's Hospitalization

This weekend turned out to be much more expensive than we had originally planned. We got up yesterday morning, let Bear out as usual and started the day. When he came in, we tried to feed him but he had to be herded over to his bowl before he'd eat, which is very unusual. A few minutes later, he was waiting at the back door like he had to go out. I let him out again and, after a few minutes, he was back at the door, ready to come in. Since it had rained that morning, I let him in but stopped him to towel dry him. That's when I saw the blood on his haunches.

We immediately took him to the Emergency Animal Hospital. They took a look at him, did a fecal exam and blood test. They kept him for the night for observation and an IV drip. The prognosis is that he had a gastrointestinal problem they couldn't directly identify as well as slight dehydration. After the stay last night, he had perked up and came home this morning.

He seems to be doing well again (though we're supposed to watch closely for several days) and is snoozing on the couch next to me as I type.
