[Moriah] Adventures in Baby Preparation
We're really getting down to the wire now with Baby Lindsley. My due date is less than 6 weeks away already! I can't believe how fast the time has gone. I remember being merely 6 weeks along when we had our first ultrasound and seeing a tiny little dot on the screen with a beating heart. Now, we can specifically see Baby's eyes, nose and mouth on the screen! It's really amazing. We've been preparing the best we can to get all the basics ready for when he arrives home. We now have: a dresser, some clothes and blankets, a pack 'n play for him to sleep in, a stroller, a car seat, a few toys from family, a couple books to start out with and some small odds and ends. We even picked up our first bag of Seventh Generation Diapers from Whole Foods this past week, which was really weird. It certainly made it seem all the more real!
Last weekend, we bought the stroller and car seat at Babies 'R Us and took them home in the Saturn. That was a hilarious trial in itself. Even though the back seat in the Saturn folds down, we still couldn't fit the two boxes in the car. We had to actually take the car seat out of its box in the middle of the parking lot, break down the box, put the car seat in the trunk and scrunch the car seat box on top of it just to get both items home! We had quite the laugh over that dilemma.
Today, we tested the stroller and car seat in the Civic. The car seat fits great. We have the LATCH system in the Civic, so that made it easy to install the car seat base. And it's pretty easy to put the seat into the base and pull it out. The problem arose with the stroller. Daniel brought it downstairs to the car with it still folded up. I attempted to put it in the trunk of the Civic, only to manage to fit it halfway in. After some major maneuvering we were able to pop it into the trunk, but it takes up the whole thing. Needless to say, we're going to have to get a small umbrella stroller for most small trips we take, such as to the store. We'll use the jogger stroller more for home use when we take our nightly walks, or for trips during which we'll be doing a lot of walking. I see why families have to buy larger vehicles in order to fit everything they need, but I'm trying to avoid ever having to get a soccer-mom-taxi. (shudders) I'd rather get a station wagon or a hatchback first.
We have two more baby preparation classes this month: Baby Care Basics 101 on Sept. 17th, and Breastfeeding on Sept. 19th. We're looking forward to those since we have so much to learn yet!
I've been feeling pretty good since we got back from Wisconsin, though this past week I have been very tired. On days that I don't have pet sitting, I've been sleeping in until noon and I still don't even feel refreshed. Hopefully, I'll be able to get enough rest for labor and delivery. I'm still planning on going through it completely naturally. I really hate the idea of receiving drugs, especially because they can affect the baby. Of course, what's right for me may not be what's right for someone else. That's the beauty of being able to choose what kind of labor and delivery you want to have.
I'll be posting some more pictures of my "growth" shortly, now that I'm 34 weeks along. Until then, adieu!
