[Daniel] Movie Mini Review - Into The Wild
We saw the movie "Into The Wild" for the first time last night. I can't help but recommend it very highly to everyone who will listen. Based on a true story, the plot plays out well, the cinematography is gorgeous and I'm geniuinely envious of the locations the actors got to shoot in. While I don't agree with the main characters means, I definitely emphasize with the urge to simplify and get back to nature. There's also an excellent selection of classic literature sprinkled throughout the movie and I was surprised by the soundtrack, which was largely originals by Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam fame. The crew also did an excellent job simulating the right time period.
At two and a half hours long, you'll want to make sure you're comfy and ready for a movie that feels more indie than most, but is still very accessible. Definitely not for little ones, given some partial nudity, language and a particular scene shot in the Alaskan wilderness. Overall, it was very well worth either the rental or purchase in my opinion.

[Daniel] Command-Line Status Updates
"""
A simple but useful command-line trick.
To output a status update that stays on a single line, end your line with
\r instead of \n. This will cause the next line to print over the top of the
current one. Be sure to output an extra blank newline (\n) once your loop is
complete to retain the information (like the last record processed).
Works on Linux & Mac as it should, generates a ton of (correct) output on
Windows. Works in all programming languages I've tried (PHP, Perl, Ruby, etc.),
not just Python.

for i in xrange(0, 100):
# Processing happens here.
print "Percent complete - %s%%\r" % i,
print
print "Complete!"

[Daniel] YAH - Yet Another Hospitalization
We had a bit of a scare last week, as Number Two had to go back into the hospital for yet another stay. The cause was the same as last time. This is apparently extremely rare in little boys, to have the infection more than once at such a young age. We had to stay for 4.5 days to make sure the infection had cleared, which required lots of juggling to make sure Mini Me and Number Two always had a parent with them. And it made me very sad/upset to see him suffering through what I can only imagine was painful and uncomfortable. So now we're kinda back to our routine (whatever that means these days), though Number Two is still getting lots of antibiotics throughout the day. Can't wait until that's over and the messes it causes.
Oh, and our house in Austin decided to close over the same weekend, which made things even less fun. Yay.
