[Moriah] First Word!!!

It nearly came to a tie, but it's official. Baby Lindsley's first word is "Dada!" He's been babbling strings of "dadadadada" and "mamamama" for several days now, if not weeks. But last night during supper, he looked at Daniel while we were eating and said "dada" quite clearly. Then, last night as we were saying goodnight to him before putting him to bed, I swear he said "night night, dada." It was the cutest thing I've ever heard! Today, he said "dada" several times throughout the day.

I think "mama" will come very soon. He may have said it yesterday or today, even, but it's not quite as clear as his "dada" is yet. But how exciting! Our little boy is starting to talk. It's just amazing.

We're setting the fires to light the way,
We're burning it all to begin again,
With hope in our hearts and bricks in our hands,
We sing for change!

Daniel wonders...

A dogeared book is far better than a pristine copy, the surest sign of a good story.

...the swell of pride when your child stacks blocks for the first time.

[Daniel] Reemerging From The Depths...

It's been a long time since I've said anything here. I'm just finishing the result of 8 weeks of crunching at work which has kept me extremely occupied. When I have been going crazy, Baby Lindsley has been keeping us busy and I've just concluded reading the Harry Potter series (very good, I highly recommend to all ages). In addition, we'll be posting some pictures, hopefully tomorrow, that many people have been waiting to see for several weeks now, the first images of Number Two.

Outside of this, I'm now cavorting once again with Django's "enemy", Ruby On Rails. Not my first time, but I will be professionally developing in it in a week or so and am re-polishing my skills.

As an aside, I've never understood the animosity between the Rails/Django communities. I fail to see why, when they have so many similarities (OOP "scripting" language, full-stack, importance of web standards, ease of use, etc) that the developers on each side are so hostile towards each other. You'd think they'd kick back and make fun of the Java frameworks or ASP.Net or something. (Shakes head)

[Moriah] Parenting Is... #13

...the overwhelmingly intense feeling of protection you get over your little baby when he gets his first boo-boo.
