[Daniel] Poll Issues

Sorry about the problem with the poll. Forgot to capitalize the class surrounding the poll, hence why the display was messed up on some browsers. Enjoy! (New poll coming next Saturday)

[Daniel] Poll Added!

As promised, some new stuff has been added to the site. To your left, you should be able to see our poll. I created a flexible little Perl program to handle this. We'll try to update it weekly.

Secondly, I've posted picture of the unpacking of the iBook on my page. I thought some of you (especially you, Dad) would like to see. Plus, it give me something to replace my "Dream Machine" verbage with. Time for bed.

[Daniel] Hello from Kosmos!

That's right! I finally got my iBook G4 back, this time in perfect working condition. And yes, I've officially named it Kosmos. I am really pleased beyond words right now. Pictures of the unpacking and whatnot will be up soon, I promise.

Moriah and I also have a few neat tidbits coming soon so watch for those within the next couple days. :D

[Daniel] Adding Insult To Injury...

The massive winning streak continues! One week after I order my broken iBook, Apple proceeds to update them with new processors. Mind you, I'm not too upset, just struck by the irony of the situation. For the curious, the only benefit I would have received from waiting and getting a new iBook is an additional 66Mhz (Yes, 1 Ghz) and double the Level 2 cache. I'm actually more upset about the cache...

Anyhow, most of the angst from the iBook situation has dissipated. I'm simply looking forward to its return and hoping that it will be fully-functional when it does.

As a final note, I'm entered in this which I am excited about. Also, the archive page should be receiving an overhaul any day now...

[Moriah] Mya's Shower & School

Well, I've had quite the busy last few weeks! I spent lots of time with my mom putting together a bridal shower for my sister's wedding that's coming up on June 19th! The shower was a lot of fun. We ended up playing some games, laughing a lot and eating some great food! My mom and I made a fruit platter, a meat and cheese tray, a cracker and bread basket, and a 7-layer salad. I made a fabulous chocolate flourless torte and a cheesecake, complete with the fixin's. I also set out some of the delicious hand-made bread that I made in my Breads and Rolls class at school. Mmmm mmm... I was glad that everyone enjoyed the fun and food. I was also glad we actually surprised Mya, since she is so hard to sneak anything past! Anyway, it was a great time. Though, I'm looking even more forward to the great time her wedding is going to be! I just know she'll be a most beautiful bride! :) Congratulations, Mya!

Now that the shower is over, I've been focusing on the last big projects and tests of the school year, as well as practicing the duet I'm playing for Sarah's recital. I have four weeks and one day of this semester left! Of course, I don't have much to look forward to as I have to attend summer school. :P But, I will only have one more full semester in fall. Once spring hits, I will have one class left and then I will graduate! (And hopefully Daniel will as well.) Then he and I can finally leave this hell-hole of a place people call Wisconsin. Until then, I'll just count down the days until graduation and continue planning where we'll go once we've reached that point. For now, I bid you all adieu.

[Daniel] Disappointment

You might be wondering, if you saw the page within the last couple days, "Where are the iBook pictures?". After all, Daniel said he received it yesterday. And I did.

The iBook is perfect. It's quick (OS X looks and runs beautifully on it), the DVD/CD-RW works exactly as expected, the Airport Extreme is good and the 640Mb of RAM really help. I guess it's a shame then...

THE GRAPHICS CARD DOESN'T WORK!!!

Oh, yes, quite right, the wonderful (cough) ATi Mobility Radeon 9200, the PRIMARY REASON I BOUGHT THIS, does not cooperate with ANYTHING related to OpenGL. That means no Quake 3, no Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, no Chess, no iTunes visualization and no 3D programming/mapping for me! Starting an OpenGL app causes the entire computer to lock hard (no force-quit, nothing) after ~10 seconds of operation, requiring a reboot of the entire computer. Patching all of the software up to current (10.3.3, Security Updates, etc.) yielded nothing. Running the Hardware Test CD (as instructed by the AppleCare Tech) as yielded nothing. AND REINSTALLING THE ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM, ALONG WITH A CLEAN WIPE OF THE DRIVE, YIELDED NOTHING!!!.

So here I sit, looking like a complete moron to all of my friends, my family, the world. The laptop I saved so long (~12-14 months) failed in the first 20 minutes of operation (when I first tried Chess). The Apple product line(s) that I have backed, supported and essentially pimped to everyone that would listen, failed almost immediately. There are no words to describe my disappointment, my anger, my frustration and most of all, my sadness.

To their credit, Apple is sending me a box to ship the iBook back in, free of charge to me. They're going to conduct a repair on it (after giving me a choice of repairing it or replacing it with a brand new identical model), free of charge to me. And they're going to ship it back to me once it's working, again free of charge to me. It's too bad they can't replace the credibility I used to have.

Here's to an extra 7-10 days wait. I guess I'll be here, waiting for the next big letdown.

[Daniel] IT'S HERE!

...Too bad I'm not at home to see it. :P Thank you Moriah for getting the delivery! Hopefully I'll have some time and put up pictures of it later tonight. YAY!

[Daniel] iBook Purchased!

Yay! As you can see above, I was able to order the iBook! Thanks to my parents and some bonds they've held for me since childhood, I was able to afford the larger screen and get it a month early! YAY YAY YAY! According to Apple, it should depart on or before April 15 and should arrive in 1-3 business days! :D :D :D

(Proceeds to bounce happily about the room...)

[Daniel] Downtime

Sorry about the downtime. More coming tonight.
