[Moriah] Bye Mom, Dad & Bean!

This past weekend was a whirl of activity for my family. After spending a very nice Thanksgiving dinner with my parents and brother, Daniel and I helped my parents pack for their move to Texas. We finished everything up Sunday night around 7:00 PM and then took them to Sergio's one last time. We had a nice dinner and then had to say our farewells. Hopefully it won't be too long until we see them again. It was hard to see them off and we said a small prayer on the way home to wish them a safe journey to their new home. I sure wish I was going along with them! I would give anything to move back to the south. (sigh)

In other news, apparently there have been more attacks on the natural health industry as far as supplements are concerned, specifically Vitamin C this time. This is all a bunch of crap, as the Codex Alimentarius Commission is trying to scare the public away from natural health remedies in order to increase profits for big pharmaceutical companies. It's all a conspiracy, as is everything government-related. As for the "study" done on Vitamin C and diabetic women, there were several flaws with the research that swayed it to a negative conclusion about the supplement, including a multitude of factors that were not taken into consideration. A quote from my natural health newsletter today: "When our medical researchers start to make our weathermen look accurate, we know we're in trouble."

With that, I'm off to bed. Good night all, and safe travels Mom, Dad and Bean!

[Daniel] NetAct v1.3

Just a quick note. NetAct (a Konfabulator widget I made) has been updated to v1.3 with a totally new codebase, a lot of bug fixes and some speed enhancements. If you haven't tried Konfabulator, it's very cool and now offered for Windows!

[Daniel] School == Hell

Between a program and a design due for DB, a design due for OO, a 15-20 page paper for Legal Env., yet another homework for QBA, a large program due for VB, submiting rebuttals for Legal Env., applying to businesses, trying to get TanPlan going, working, updating a widget, trying to get another website going before the end of the month and the rest of the general busyness of life, I am pretty damn busy. The updates that were planned for Snow-Wolf are, as ever, being pushed back. No surprise, right? :)

[Daniel] More Updates!

The astute surfer will note some changes around here. We're moving to an all PHP setup to make things easier on us. Several of the old/defunct sections have been removed or remodeled. Here's a list of changes:

  • Updated all pages to PHP

  • All sections no longer foray into subdirectories

  • Web Design removed in favor of RU

  • Misty's memorial has been archived

  • The Gallery has been temporarily removed

  • The poll is being updated and will be down for awhile

  • Software page features more, no longer CalParse oriented

  • Many old folders have been removed/cleaned up

  • Addition of badges to pages

  • Brand spanking new RSS 2.0 feed

Within the next couple weeks, I plan to revamp just about every area of the site. The skate videos will be back after a long absence, my page will become more dedicated to who I am professionally, we will bring back the photo gallery and add more pics and bring back the poll. And I have not forgotten about Moriah's recipes. Thanks to everyone for being patient.

[Moriah] The Cooking Demo Went Well!

Well, my vegetarian cooking demo is done...and it went very well. It was a very tiny crowd (only my mom, Daniel, a co-worker and one customer) but it was fun and everyone learned something new. And hey, how could we argue with all the food we got to sample? I mean, come on, fresh organic vegetable soup, veggie sloppy joes and a chocolate pudding pie on a cold night. How could it go wrong? We were all so involved with everything that the demo went on for nearly 2 hours instead of one! Hopefully I'll get to do another class in the spring for a little larger crowd and I'll be able to cover more ground. We'll see!

Now that the cooking class is over, it's time to get back to the grind with homework. Blah. Whee, I get to study blood and guts for First Aid and work on a huge marketing project for another class. Fun fun, let me tell ya.

[Daniel] Voting Outside The Mainstream

I am going to rant about the election here. Not because I'm unhappy about Bush being re-elected (believe me, I am). Not because Kerry didn't win (I'm not really that sad as I don't think he was the appropriate president). I'm going after what I feel is a much bigger problem than some pretzel-choking, war-mongering fool being re-elected.

For those that are unaware, I voted for the Independant candidate, Ralph Nader. For whatever reason, I have been told it was a waste of a vote, that he has no chance and generally being laughed at. NOTHING could possibly piss me off more.

First off, it was my decision, 100%. Let's look at what I did, shall we? I checked my facts. I read up on the issues. And I researched the other candidates involved, from Bush & Kerry all the way to Badnarik and Cobb and beyond. Since I am a citizen of the U.S. last time I checked, I could swear I have the right to cast a vote on Election Day for the officials I choose.

Second, it is not a waste of a vote. Wasting a vote would be betting on the person I think will win. Wasting my vote would be voting for someone I don't like but is better than the likely alternative. Wasting my vote would be not voting at all.

Instead, I voted for the person I agree with on issues like gun control, abortion, stem cell research, the environment, gay marriage and good old fashion diplomatic relations with the rest of the world. I voted for someone I wouldn't mind following as a leader of the United States. I voted for who I felt was competent and savvy enough to lead while maintaining democracy here in America, the supposed land of the free.

I don't care that people think he has no chance of winning. The only reason why he doesn't have a chance is because so many people merely think he doesn't and spread that same crappy idea with reckless abandon. After all, it's much easier to follow the rest of the flock than to bother to think for yourself and really pick who you think can do the job.

I'm sick of only having two (usually crappy) choices for president. I don't think there should only be two parties (which happen to be nearly the same anyhow) that run our country. I hope I live to see a day when that changes. And you can count on me voting that way from now on.

[Moriah] Cooking Demo Tomorrow

I'm preparing for the vegetarian cooking demo that I'll be putting on at The Free Market tomorrow night at 7:00. Should be fun. I'll be making a few vegetarian dishes and giving a basic introduction to vegetarianism and vegetarian cooking for those who are beginners. If it goes over well, I'll most likely be doing another one in the spring. We'll see how it goes! I'll try to update on how it went when I get home tomorrow night.

We finally have our web site up for The Free Market also, so now people can start ordering from us online. We have two domains: thefreemrkt.com and glutenfreefoods.net. Check it out and pass the word!

Well, that's about all I have for now. I'll update again soon. G'night all!
